The last stop on our 2025-2026 tour of Laos was Luang Prabang (ຫຼວງພະບາງ).

Lao-China Railway (LCR)
We traveled to Luang Prabang from Vang Vieng via the Lao-China Railway (LCR). The 50 minute trip was an easy way to get from Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang. Much of the trip was through tunnels, but our views when we popped out of the tunnels were often quite stunning.
Charming Town
Several sources had told us Luang Prabang was where we would want to spend the majority of our time in Laos; we planned accordingly, and were glad we did so. In Luang Prabang a good time could be had simply walking the beautiful streets.
Our Hotel
Knowing ourselves, we knew we would explore the city more if we were staying in the center of it. We really enjoyed our stay at the Ananta. Situated right between the morning market and the night market, it was an easy walk to the river, the Royal Palace, and most restaurants we wanted to try. Yet it had a very cozy courtyard that felt removed from the world.
Dining
I don’t think we had a bad bite to eat our whole time in Luang Prabang. Some of the highlights include:
- Bouang (loved the green curry gnocchi)
- JoMa Bakery Café (lots of good lunch options)
- Aromdee (for local coffees, teas, and infusions)
- Lanzhou Hand-Pulled Noodles
(watch the noodles pulled, then eat them!) - Popolo (my wife and I enjoyed the French Kiss pizza)
After our meal at Popolo, we stopped by Big Brother Mouse and got to meet some locals while providing English practice.
Royal Palace,
National Museum, &
Royal Ballet
Sorry, not a lot of photos. Some places were marked as no photos and in others my phone was being used to listen to a QR scan guide. You too could scan the QR code and go on your own virtual tour.
While there, we purchased tickets for the Royal Ballet the next night. There were a lot of neat parts, diluted by those same parts dragging on for too long.
