Chiang Mai-Headed Home

Our last day in Chiang Mai we made several stops on our way back to the Chiang Mai train station from our lodging near Doi Inthanon.

Before we said good by to our hosts at Elephant House and Pool Villas, they introduced us to their tortoises and let our kids feed them.

Our hosts highlighted a nearby market that we decided to swing by since our next stops were not yet open. ตลาดนัดทุ่งฟ้าบด (Called Saturday Buffalo Market on Google maps) is not a place you “swing by”. It is a massive market selling seemingly everything (including buffalo).

From the market we went to Baan Tawai Woodcarving Village. Things may not have been in full swing, but it was neat to see some carvers at work.

Waterpark

From there we went to Grand Canyon Waterpark. If you have proofs of Thai residency, it may be good to bring them (e.g. driver’s license, work permit, school IDs).

There were so many things to do. The Park had a variety of inflatables: obstacles, sports fields, climbing structures, ziplines, slides). We enjoyed the on-the-water bikes). There were even pump foils to try.

We were glad we showed up early; while it didn’t feel empty at 10:15, by 1:00 we were looking back with fondness to the time before the hordes of young adults descended on the place. The child-friendliness of the place decreased as the number of young adults increased.

American Fair

From there we went to the American Fair themed Freedom 250 celebration that happened to overlap with our time in Chiang Mai. From the verbal invitation the U.S. Consulate had extended us, we formed the wrong impression of the event, so we were a little disappointed by the lack of corndogs. We still enjoyed the great live jazz before rushing to the train station.

We did make it to the train on time.
