While we were at Ko Samui (เกาะสมุย) we went on a pirate ship. We went snorkeling at the first place the pirate ship stopped. The next place the pirate ship stopped was a beach. We took a smaller boat to the beach because the pirate ship was too big to go to shore. The last…

After our stay on Chiew Lan Lake, we traveled to Ko Lanta (เกาะลันตา). The ferry crossing from the mainland to Ko Lanta was easy and inexpensive even with a vehicle. Long Beach On Lanta we stayed on Long Beach (หาดพระแอะ). We enjoyed the laid back atmosphere; the long, wide, smooth, open sand; and the many…

We took a boat to the first island on the tour, Ko Chueak (เกาะเชือก) At Ko Chueak we went snorkeling and saw lots of cool fish. After Ko Chuek we went to Ko Maa (เกาะม้า). The water was a bit murky so we didn’t see as many fish. Next we went to Emerald Cave (หาดสวรรค์…

After a breakfast with a view at our hotel (Rai Eingpu), we packed up and headed to Ratchaprapha Marina (ท่าเรือเทศบาล เขื่อนเชี่ยวหลาน) to begin the day’s adventures. Our boat ride across a relatively small part of Cheow Lan Lake (เขื่อนเชี่ยวหลาน) was a constant stream of stunning views. We were happy to find ourselves arriving at our…

We left Bangkok on the night train. Due to the busy season, we did not get an air conditioned car. Fortunately, the weather was cooler. While noisy and bright, the ride went well. King Car Rent met us at the train station with our rental car. After a great breakfast across the street from the…

Our second day of Christmas Break filled up fast. Before the day even really got started, we’d visited an apartment for rent and played some soccer. The first main activity of the day was a visit to friends. They shared some fun places in their neighborhood with us: a beautiful rooftop the local castle and…

We met a friend from the States at Bangkok’s Eastern Bus Terminal (สถานีขนส่งผู้โดยสารเอกมัย) and so discovered the Science Center (ศูนย์วิทยาศาสตร์เพื่อการศึกษา) next door to the terminal. At just ฿50 ($1.50) per adult and ฿30 ($0.90) per child, it was a very low risk visit. The variety of exhibits was quite good. We didn’t get everywhere in…

We had a day off school for Father’s Day (also the birthday of King Bhumibol the Great) and took a quick trip North to Ayutthaya (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) with friends. This ancient capital surrounded by rivers was a treat to explore. We also enjoyed our lunch at Coffee Old City. The tuktuks in…

Saturday evening we took a dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya River (แม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา). The dinner and live music were nice, but we most enjoyed the changing views along the river as the sun went down.

Thursday after school we went onboard the Doulos Hope currently docked here in Bangkok. We enjoyed the adventure. We got to see a more industrial corner of Bangkok (to get to the ship we had to drive past some riverfront warehouses). The big boat was fun. The book selection was great. It was also good…
