Last Night on Bali
We spent our last night on Bali at the kid-friendly Holiday Inn Resort Baruna Bali near the Airport. Our kids enjoyed the large chess board, the billiards table, the foosball table, and with more time would doubtless have made use of the in-pool volleyball net and the grass soccer pitch.

To Labuan Bajo
After a quick ride on the hotel shuttle to the airport and a long wait for a delayed flight, we were in the air on our way to Komodo International Airport (LBJ) in Labuan Bajo.

Labuan Bajo and Komodo
Labuan Bajo (as may be obvious from their airport name) is the gateway to Komodo National Park. There are very tight restrictions on foreign access to the Komodo National Park itself. As of our visit (April 2026) visitors are capped at 1000 per day. Visitors are not allowed to sleep on the main islands. This is to protect the park which is (among other things):
- Home to the world’s largest lizard (the Komodo Dragon)
- A UNESCO World Heritage Site
- a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve
- One of the New 7 Wonders of Nature
- A WWF Global 200 Marine Eco-region
- A WWF/IUCN Centre of Plant Diversity
- An Endemic Bird Area, and
- An ASEAN Heritage Park
To access the park we booked passage on a three day, two night trip aboard the Fadaelo through Travass.
Great View While Waiting
But we had a night to spend in Labuan Bajo before boarding our boat. While waiting, we enjoyed the view from our hotel overlooking Waecicu Beach.
And took photos with the Komodo dragon (statue) in our hotel’s lobby.
