Sam Phan Bok

One of the highlights of our Songkran break for our kids was our visit to Sam Phan Bok (สามพันโบก, the three thousand holes). Were it not for the growing heat and scorching sun that eventually made it too hot to touch the rocks, I think we would have been there all day.

Our children loved climbing on the rocks and discovering new nooks and vistas.

It was also fun to find little pockets of life surrounded by so much that seemed barren.

Looking across the Mekong (แม่น้ำโขง) into Laos was an added bonus.

Having left Sam Phan Bok behind, we stopped by Sao Chaliang Yak (เสาเฉลียงยักษ์) on our way to our hotel.

At our hotel we basked in our air conditioning and enjoyed our view of the Mekong and Laos

before heading back out to see the confluence of the Mun (แม่น้ำมูล) and Mekong rivers

and enjoying a meal on a floating restaurant

  2. […] Rock pillars are another reason people visit Pha Taem. We didn’t take more photos of them on this day, but you can see one in our post about Sam Phan Bok. […]
