Leaving Huế we shifted gears from citadels and mausoleums to waterparks and fire breathing bridges.
Mikazuki Water Park
Our first day in Đà Nẵng we went to Mikazuki Water Park. The heated water in the indoor portion of the park was a nice change from the frigid temperatures of our hotel in Huế. Waterparks don’t lend themselves to carrying around a camera, so the only photos I got were when they turned on a bubble machine in the wave pool.

There were a number of different areas for our kids to rotate through. In the indoor area with the wave pool there was a smaller kids water playground, a lazy river, a pair of inner tube water slides, and a hyper slide. The hyper slide was like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. The slide was a closed loop of rolling hills. The raft was magnetically propelled up each of the hills to then slide down the other side. They were quite strict about enforcing weight requirements—much to the chagrin of our 11 year old.
Outdoors (where the water was much colder in January), there was a second lazy river, some terraced pools, and a pirate ship.

Our daughter enjoyed it; it was too cold for our son to get excited about.
Back inside there was an Onsen, that we didn’t visit; and a Kid’s Park (in some places it was called a Ninja Park, but I think Kid’s Park creates better expectations for the space).

Dragon Bridge
In the evening in Đà Nẵng we went to watch the Dragon Bridge breath fire and water. It was nice to be in a hotel within sight of the bridge.

We enjoyed our walk to the bridge. There was a nice wide riverside walkway with fun sculptures and great water views.

As a bridge designer, I very much enjoyed the way structural components also served decorative functions.

And as an added bonus, the head of the dragon breaths fire and water:

Đà Nẵng Cathedral
Our last morning in Đà Nẵng, we attended mass at the Đà Nẵng Cathedral. We were inspired by a very evangelistic mass reflecting on the coming of Christ to all nations as represented in the magi. The Christmas season also meant we were familiar with the majority of the music selections.
Oh, and did I mention the Cathedral is pink?
