We stayed at PK Riverside because it was 9 minutes from Pha Taem (อุทยานแห่งชาติผาแต้ม) allowing us to get there early and beat (the worst of) the heat.
Getting there early meant we got to glimpse some animals before they hid from the heat.
One of the main reasons people travel to Pha Taem is to see the ~3000 year old cliff art.

But there were other discoveries to be made along the way.

Another reason people travel to Pha Taem is to catch the first sunlight on the Kingdom of Thailand. We opted not to get up quite that early, but we still enjoyed the views from the cliff looking over the Mekong into Laos.

Rock pillars are another reason people visit Pha Taem. We didn’t take more photos of them on this day, but you can see one in our post about Sam Phan Bok.
On our way from Pha Taem to our hotel for the night we stumbled upon this giant turtle.
The Saren Turtle (เต่าสะเร็น) houses an open air market featuring local goods as well as an assortment of eateries (some of which are air conditioned). Large pretty fish swim in two ponds in the middle of the pavilion.
