The last full day of our Songkran break we went to two Khmer ruins sites: Phanom Rung Historical Park (อุทยานประวัติศาสตร์พนมรุ้ง) and Prasat Muang Tam (ปราสาทเมืองต่ำ) in Buriram province.
Phanom Rung sits on top of an old volcano in the middle of what is otherwise fairly flat country.

Not only do you have to climb (or in our case drive) up a volcano, there is also a long formal approach to the temple.

The process of arriving adds to the grandeur of the place, though it would be grand enough without it.

Just a few minutes down the road from Phanom Rung are the the Prasat Muang Tam ruins. When purchasing tickets for Phanom Rung we payed a little extra to get a joint ticket to Prasat Muang Tam. While not quite as grand as Phanom Rung, Prasat Muang Tam was worth the quick visit.
