Children’s Day

One of the new holidays we get to celebrate here in Thailand that we didn’t have in America is Children’s Day (วันเด็กแห่งชาติ). The holiday officially occurs on the second Saturday of January, but many activities occurred on Sunday as well. There were special events all over Bangkok. Two that were of interest to our kids were the Royal Thai Air Force Museum and a special LEGO event at Siam Paragon.

Air Force Museum

As our train (which children ride free on Children’s Day) approached the station near the end of the line and the majority of the remaining passengers onboard were families with children, we realized we were on our way to a popular Children’s Day destination. The crowds continued all day long.

But the crowds were there for a reason. It was a fun event. Not only did we get to walk through the museum, our kids also got to climb inside a few vehicles.

There were shows to watch.

We enjoyed free ice cream, free snacks, and got some photos with those handing them out.

LEGO!

Sunday after church we went to Siam Paragon because we’d read that there were some LEGO themed kids activities for the weekend in honor of Children’s Day.

In addition to the activities (which included a magic show) our kids were also each given popcorn, a movie gift card, and three small LEGO sets (one of which came from a different toy store in the mall).

Children’s Day Tips:

  • Bring empty backpacks to fill with goodies.
  • Plan for crowds
