Around Town

Our second day of Christmas Break filled up fast. Before the day even really got started, we’d visited an apartment for rent and played some soccer.

The first main activity of the day was a visit to friends. They shared some fun places in their neighborhood with us:

a beautiful rooftop

the local castle

and a great burger joint (The Fat Cow)

After lunch, because we were in the neighborhood, we swung by Chatuchak Market to look for a Thai outfit our daughter had been wanting. Sellers there told us Pratunam (ประตูน้ำ) was the place to look for such things.

On our way to Pratunam, we stopped by where I lived when I went to Thai language school 16 years ago.

While there we even happened to run into two friends from that once upon a time. We then took the same train ride I did every day when traveling to language school. Just off the train we saw a fun Christmasy cafe. Unfortunately, the line for a spot inside precluded it from further investigation that day.

From there we walked to Pratunam where we wandered through seemingly endless clothing stalls being pointed ever closer to our goal by helpful shopkeepers. We did eventually find the desired outfit.

On our way back to the train we passed several places we’ll have to explore another day. We did spare time to stop for some photos.

We also spotted Shake Shack. Having just been told over lunch that that was the place in Bangkok to find Martin’s Famous Potato Rolls, we stopped in.
